Volunteer service - is determined by the volunteers and organizations involved in volunteerism, like learning and work for the common good.
(Long-term) volunteerism assumes:
- The motivation is not profit-related
- Lack of compensation from the state
Volunteer initiatives apply to almost any sphere of human activity - work with socially unprotected population groups (disabled, elderly, marginalized), work in non-formal education aimed at Intercultural communication, development projects that strengthen the spirit of social tolerance, peacemaking, conflict resolution, environmental protection, activation of the population in remote areas, etc. Volunteers participate in an ever-going process of political and social change. Volunteering is the most effective method for practical non-formal education in the field of so-called third sector - non-profit sector (social) structures.
Volunteers and their organizations are involved in volunteer projects on the basis of a personal decision, initiative and confidence in the goals and ideals of volunteerism. Volunteers are not "cheap labor" and their initiative and energy involved in the work of their own voluntary request and is catalyzing element in the work of the project.
